One minute, we thought we were going to be quitting everything and closing up shop. Now, fast forward 12 months and, surprise! - we did quite the opposite.
We’re expanding. And in more ways than one. First off (and more to come on this), we have our new showroom. Secondly, we acquired an ah-maaaazing brand partner.
Drum roll, please…
THE NEW DELHI COMPANY is now available to shop at JUNN!
For those who don’t know, The New Delhi Company, via it's creative founder Gaurav Sawhney, has been a trusted name in Toronto’s South Asian bridal community for years, dressing brides and grooms for some of life’s most meaningful celebrations. Known for timeless silhouettes and a regal approach to tradition, the brand creates pieces designed to be remembered.
But the path that brought The New Delhi Company to JUNN was anything but planned...
In fact, it started over a year ago, at a time when we were feeling completely burnt out.
Natasha and Rupa approached Gaurav with what was, in all honesty, a bit of a desperate proposition. We had built something we were incredibly proud of, but we were exhausted. We were trying to figure out if there was a way to keep everything we had created moving forward without having to carry all of it ourselves.
Gaurav already had a beautiful brick-and-mortar store, so we wondered: could we somehow join forces? Could some of our designers live within The New Delhi Company walls? Could there be a version of this where what we had built continued, just differently?
At the time, it didn’t quite fit his model. So the conversation ended with a let’s think about it, and we all carried on.
What we didn’t know was that Gaurav was quietly at a crossroads of his own.
After years of building The New Delhi Company and its reputation within Toronto’s South Asian community, his lease was coming to an end, and he too was thinking about what the next chapter of the brand might look like.
In the meantime we came to our own realization that we weren't going to stop and our rebrand took place kickstarting our new found push to see how we could increase our footprint. At one point, the idea even came to mind.....maybe we would take over his Vaughan space? But that wasn’t quite our path either.
But then, everything started to click.
We had gone from being convinced we didn’t want a store or to keep it going at all, to realizing that maybe what JUNN needed next was a home of its own. So we started looking. At the same time Gaurav approached us again. This time in reverse, did we want to take over his legacy in our new space? Expand our offerings? Fill in our gaps? Yes, yes we did. So we agreed, with no real plan of where, when and how it would all work out.
But it did. Within a few weeks of formalizing our partnership, we found our space and we signed our lease.
Two businesses. Two completely separate journeys. Somehow arriving at the same crossroads at almost exactly the same moment.
Call it kismet. Divine timing. A really wild coincidence. Whatever you believe in, this one felt like it was meant to be. What started as two parties trying to figure out how to step away from something ultimately became a conversation about how to keep it going, and make it bigger.
And that might be our favourite part of this story. We’re incredibly proud to carry The New Delhi Company forward at JUNN, preserving the legacy Gaurav built while introducing it to a new chapter alongside the incredible designers and collections already part of the JUNN world.
The same pieces you’ve loved. The same warm customer service and honesty the brand is known for. The legacy that has been built over years of dressing Toronto’s South Asian community. It’s all coming with us. Only now, you’ll find it at JUNN.
Funny how life works, right?
Welcome to the next chapter of The New Delhi Company.
Welcome to JUNN.
